Here is the surprise set we shot with R. Ring, which is Kelley Deal from the Breeders and Mike Montgomery of Kentucky band Ampline who we love!
This all happened last year when we were filming a few bands we loved around SXSW. We were filming Transistor Six alumni Gemma Ray and in walks Kelley Deal who you can actually see in the Gemma Ray film sitting against the wall in the corner: http://bit.ly/14flY6f
So after the Gemma set we all mosey (stalk) over to say hi and introduce ourselves. She started asking what the hell we were doing with a bunch of old Super 8 cameras and photo film cameras and we explain what Transistor Six was. She then says, "Wow I would love to do this..." and we immediately clear the slate (and our throats) and say "How about we do this in 45 Minutes?", and she responds, "Let me finish eating and I'll go get Mike and we'll do it". (insert huge grin here)
They came in exactly 45 minutes later and played four new tracks: "100 Dollar Heat", "Fallout and Fire", "Scary and Trixie". We also recorded alt takes of both "100 Dollar Heat" and "Fallout and Fire" which you can hear on our fancy R. Ring Facebook app!
We loved all the tracks, but for me "Trixie" was the one that knocked me back from the minute they started playing. They have released a few very limited-edition pieces here and there and one that we really wanted to get our hands on was the orange tinted transparent 7". (or 45 if you're an old timey collector) of the song "Fallout and Fire". They are out there playing shows new and we can't wait for them to come back and put out some more vinyl.

We had some great moments getting to shoot R. Ring. As we shot some Lomography photos, other bands had heard they were filming and recording with us. At one point the door of the room we were shooting in opens and the band Imperial Teen walk in to say hi. As excited as we were we got to pull off silly shots with the two of them. In these pictures we had shot three different texture rolls. A texture roll is when you shoot a roll of film, then rewind it and shoot over it again creating a double exposure. Our textures were of the Austin Kite Fest, a pool we shot the leaves and reflection of underwater and of my backyard running around with some neon tube lights. We let them know which was which, which is why you see them looking up in the air for kites! (fun right?) Cameras we used were the LC-A+, Diana F+. We also used the Color Splash Flash and Ring Flash.
Check out the gear we used and if you have questions about shots you can direct them to questions@transistorsix.com . We will feature some of them on our Facebook pages with answers. Please be specific about the photo in question and we will try to get back to you.
Enjoy the Transistor Six film "Fallout And Fire" from Kelley Deal and Mike Montgomery's new band R-Ring filmed live at Frank in Austin TX. This film all shot on glorious Super 8 vintage film and cameras.
